Tekedra Mawakana

Co-Chief Executive Officer

Tekedra N. Mawakana is the co-CEO of Waymo, an autonomous driving technology company with a mission to be the world’s most trusted driver.

As co-CEO, Tekedra is responsible for overall company strategy, with her primary focus on ensuring Waymo’s transformational technology — the Waymo Driver — is commercialized and widely adopted.

Tekedra has more than two decades of experience advising consumer technology companies on how to advance their business interests around the world and is an expert in navigating complex high-profile issues. She began her career working with regulated technology and telecom industries, and leading global technology transactions.

Tekedra previously served as COO of Waymo. Prior to Waymo, Tekedra led global teams across five continents at eBay, Yahoo, AOL and Startec. She started her career at the DC-based law firm Steptoe & Johnson LLP.

Tekedra currently serves on the Board of Directors for Intuit, and on the Advisory Council for Boom Technology. She is a social impact-focused angel investor, and an Advisor and LP with the Operator Collective.

In February 2024, Tekedra was recognized by Board Prospects among 100 Black Board Members Making a Difference. In 2023, Tekedra was selected for the Silicon Valley Power 100 List by Silicon Valley Business Journal, and the Power 50 List by the US Black Chamber. In 2022, Entrepreneur Magazine recognized Tekedra as a Top 100 Women of Influence, and Fortune Magazine honored her as a leading 50 over 50. In 2021, Savoy Magazine featured her as a Most Influential Black Corporate Director. In 2020, she was chosen by Automotive News for the 100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry, and by Vulog for Top 20 Influential Women in Mobility. Tekedra has been a featured speaker at high profile events including SXSW, Code, and WSJ Live.

Tekedra received her JD from Columbia Law School and her BA with honors from Trinity Washington University.
