Sleep Habits to Adopt While on Quarantine
Our lives have changed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Many have lost their jobs, children can’t go to school, and everyone is on lockdown.
Commonly, our daily routine has deteriorated during this period. A lot of people are now working from home, but since the virus causes us to worry, our moods changed, and we feel demotivated. It also led to a change in our habits, including our sleeping patterns.
It is important to get the amount of sleep we need. When we sleep at night, our bodies process all the things that happened throughout the day. Sleep helps our immune system and improves our mental health. These things are essential, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.
You may be wondering what the ideal sleeping hours are during this pandemic. However, there is really no correct answer or a perfect time. You just need to make sure you get to sleep a full 7-9 hours. It is important to set a routine and wake up early so that your sleep cycle will not be ruined when things go back to normal.
Relax an Hour Before Bed
It will help you relax when you try to loosen up by doing something calming an hour before you go to sleep. Some people read after work to unwind, meditate or drink tea. Try to reduce screen time, spend the night with family, snuggle with your pet, or listen to music. You will fall asleep easier and quicker if you try these activities before going to bed.
Get up at the Same Time Every Day
It is essential to wake up early every day at the same time. Our productivity is affected, and our sleep cycle is interrupted when we sleep all day. In our normal life, we do not sleep during the day; therefore, we should not be sleeping even though we are in quarantine. Set your alarm for the same time every day. Not only will you be able to follow the sleep schedule, but you will also feel like it’s just a normal day.
Do Not Take Naps
Your circadian rhythm can be affected when you take naps during the day. It will confuse your body, especially when it’s already time to go to bed.
Except in certain circumstances, avoid taking naps. For example, if you did not get enough sleep during the night, taking a nap could be needed. Limit your naps to 15 to 30 minutes. This makes you feel less sleepy and can also support your cognitive function.
When your body gets tired due to exercise, it helps you relax and makes you feel sleepy to recover. We are ordered to stay home throughout this time, especially since we don’t have any business to go outside; we need to make sure that we move our bodies and stay active.
Create a Morning and Night Routine
Following our schedule throughout the quarantine period is essential. It creates a sense of normality that could reduce any nervousness or anxiety. A lot of articles about separating work versus home create a daily routine for you to reduce the stress and make you more productive.
It is hard to get enough sleep during this time of great stress. But getting enough sleep is important for our physical and mental health, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.
